FEBRUARY 2012 - FEATURED CAUSE

Almost thirty years ago a young man arrived in Los Angeles to volunteer with the homeless population on Skid Row. But what could have just been a part time way for one man to feel good about giving back quickly spiraled into a program that is now entering into its twenty-eighth year, empowering homeless all across the southland.

Chrysalis started as a food and clothing distribution center, serving the men and women living on Skid Row in Los Angeles, but you know the old saying: Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day; teach a man to fish ... So Chrysalis is now dedicated to creating a pathway to self-sufficiency for homeless and low-income individuals. While they still pass out food, clothing, and other items where needed, more importantly they focus on providing resources and support needed to find and retain employment.

A 501(c)3 based in Los Angeles, Chrysalis now operates out of three non-profit centers located in the most "in need" areas here in L.A.: Downtown, Santa Monica, and the Pacoima area of the San Fernando Valley.

JANUARY 2012 - FEATURED CAUSE

It seems like such a simple thing in 2012, but clean and safe drinking water is still not available for all in our world. One in eight people in the world don't have access to safe drinking water right now, which leads to one out of every five deaths under the age of five due to water-related disease or deficiency. In poor and/or under-developed countries, like in Africa, dirty drinking water is the cause of eighty percent of illnesses, which is why The Water Project has started their mission there.

Nearly 1 billion people suffer needlessly without access to safe water, but The Water Project is convinced they can change that one village at a time. By working with local partners, engaging and educating the community, and installing wells, The Water Project brings fresh and clean drinking water to various regions in Africa. But their work doesn't stop when the tap flows; they make sure to monitor and re-evaluate all of their projects to ensure long-term success.

The Water Project fundraises to build and fix wells in impoverished African villages. You can read more about their initiatives and how to get involved at http://thewaterproject.org.

DECEMBER 2011 - FEATURED CAUSE

Just a few short weeks ago, IBG Inc hired a new intern, and in addition to bringing us up-to-date with social media (and bringing us delicious, healthy baked goods at some of our meetings!), she also introduced us to another cause that truly fits the IBG, Inc mission statement.

The Association for Small African Projects, aka ASAP, is a foundation that was started over ten years before IBG came to be and in that time has supported the children of West Africa Burkina Faso. Ever since 1998, ASAP has successfully initiated development projects in the fields of education, health services, general village development, economy and environment, all to better the futures of the youths in the region. ASAP owns tens of development projects in the different villages in the rural areas of Burkina Faso to help them meet their goal of reducing extreme poverty, reducing child mortality rates, fighting disease epidemics such as AIDS, and developing global partnerships for development by 2015.

You can read up on their cause and help them reach that goal here.

GET TO KNOW IBG

Rounding out our IBG Q&A series is our other new member, Susie Richards!

1. As one of the two new members, how did you get involved with IBG and what are your new responsibilities?

I met the original members of IBG in the Summer of 2008, shortly before they developed their idea and turned it into a successful reality. I was not living in LA at the time, but I traveled across the country to attend and/or volunteer at as many events as I could because I believed in these girls and their cause. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of watching my friends grow and evolve into a full-fledged NPO. I couldn't be more proud of their hard work and dedication. I'm truly honored they have allowed me to become more involved with their work and contribute my own talents and energy to help bring about positive changes in the world. My new responsibilities involve reaching out to external philanthropic individuals and organizations to procure additional support for the events organized by IBG. I help to maintain responsible professional relationships and manage the expenses associated with running fundraisers, producing event-related merchandise and promoting the work of startup and underfunded nonprofit organizations. My work ensures that, through the greatly appreciated monetary and/or logistical support of generous contributors and volunteers, the people and causes represented by the selected charities receive the maximum assistance from every event organized by IBG.

2. Can you pick a favorite moment or memory from your time with IBG thus far?

I’ve experienced so many great moments with IBG over the years that it's very hard to choose just one. I have to say one of my favorites was the moment Frank Spotnitz walked into the room for the first IBG event. I was a volunteer that day so I was aware of the hard work which led up to that very special moment. Sitting in the crowd and watching the faces of my fellow audience members and friends light up and feeling the excitement in the room was really powerful. I realized Mr. Spotnitz seemed to be just as aware of how unique and powerful the bond was between the fans and creators of The X-Files. The day of that first event, I truly understood the meaning of the famous quote, "What can be imagined, can be achieved." Flash forward a few years and a cross-country move, and I found myself sitting in a much larger and more crowded room of fans with Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny and Chris Carter. Once again, we were bonded by our sense of community and dedication to another worthy cause. The awe, appreciation and spirit of celebration in the room was palpable. I was so proud to know IBG had brought all of us together to share yet another special experience which would directly benefit those less fortunate than us.

3. What inspires you on a daily basis?

I’d be lying if I didn't mention that I am who I am today because I was inspired by The X-Files and Gillian Anderson herself. My interest in science was further fueled by the strong female character of Scully and I went on to earn my Ph.D. and become a scientist to fulfill my desire to make a real difference in the world. My passion is disease research and every day I go to work with the hope that the nations who have the resources to prevent and treat the diseases that still plague so many people out there will find productive ways to save more lives. Hearing about the achievements of so many great people and organizations that have the courage to take a stand against disease, poverty and injustice on a daily basis keeps me motivated to fight for change. I truly respect those in power, including Gillian Anderson and all of the other celebrities who have participated in IBG events. I’m inspired by those who use their positions to promote awareness about the physical, social and economic problems which others ignore or downplay. We all have a responsibility and I want to believe together we can change the world.

4. In the next five years, what do you believe IBG can accomplish?

Since I have observed and participated in so many of of the group's great accomplishments, I have absolutely no doubt IBG can be successful in any and all future endeavors. We have a dedicated team who truly want to make a difference, even though we may never meet the people who benefit from our work. There are many great upcoming events and I can't wait to participate in each one on a more involved level. I hope the group can continue to motivate our generous supporters to become involved in community and global outreach in the name of whatever cause inspires them. I believe the powerful combination of dedicated fans and unique experiences with their favorite role models is a wonderful way to promote change, and look forward to seeing IBG continue to grow and support a larger number of charities.

5. What is one item or moment someone has given to you that you will never forget?

Wow, good question. Again, I have many answers for this one, but I'll go with the moment that an unknown someone decided to hire me for my current job; my first job out of grad school. At the time I was applying for jobs and interviewing, it seemed like a pipe dream, but I moved forward with it to prevent myself from wondering "what if..." when I ended up in another part of the country with a different job. I'm so grateful this person or committee was willing to take a chance on me, because their decision truly has changed my life. Not only am I able to use my education and new position to more directly help those with serious illnesses and little hope through my daily work, but I have been given the opportunity to grow as a person. I moved away from my hometown and have had the honor of becoming involved with IBG on a more regular basis. I'm truly grateful and I hope I can indirectly thank this person or persons for their faith in me by using all of my skills to the best of my ability.

6. Now for a fun one - Which is your holiday season drink of choice: egg nog, spiced apple cider, or hot chocolate?

Hot chocolate all the way. I'm a fan of anything involving chocolate. Growing up in the Midwest, I learned to greatly appreciate a hot drink on a cold day. My current favorite is peppermint hot chocolate. Marshmallows always make it more fun too. Yum.

Thanks for reading these blog Q&A’s everyone! Stay tuned for more exciting blog posts, pictures, and events in 2012!

GET TO KNOW IBG

Next up is one of IBG's two new members, Meghan Wilson!

1. As one of the two new members, how did you get involved with IBG and what are your new responsibilities?

I suppose, in the most indirect way possible, I have Gillian Anderson to thank for my getting involved with IBG. She herself didn’t have anything to do with it of course, but her influence on me definitely did. I kind of came out of left field in terms of joining IBG; I didn’t know any of the members before I got involved and I didn’t even live in LA! But, I decided to go to the Conversation series event back in July, which coincided with me being in LA visiting friends and trying to find a place to live. To be honest, I wasn’t entirely positive what I had gotten myself into when I bought my ticket, but I’m unbelievably glad I went. When I saw everyone from IBG running around the Beverly Wilshire, all working together to make this event happen, I just knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. I was so inspired they were girls like me, working to raise an amazing amount of money for a deserving charity. I feel so fortunate they’ve allowed me to join them and I instantly felt so accepted and welcomed by everyone. Not only have I become part of a wonderful cause, I’ve made six amazing new friends and for that I am grateful.

My new responsibilities primarily revolve around social media; I’m now in charge of updating the IBG Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook. I do my best to update the pages with something new and exciting every day. I’ve also been in charge of doing these member Q&A’s for our blog, as well as taking all of the profile pictures. It’s definitely been a great way to get to know everyone a little better! I also help to secure product donations for talent gift bags, which we give as a thank you to the talent for donating their time for our event.

2. Can you pick a favorite moment or memory from your time with IBG thus far?

Well, I was pretty darn proud the day I figured out we could use Google Translate to translate Kanji symbols into English, in order to get our July Conversation DVD’s through customs and into China. I also attempted to handwrite Kanji symbols on customs forms that day; definitely something I never predicted I’d be doing! It’s incredible how many different countries those DVD’S have been shipped to; we’re currently at 40 and counting. As someone who wants to travel anywhere and everywhere, sending out these DVD’s has been a fun process.

3. What inspires you on a daily basis?

People who live their lives with courage and don’t let fear get in the way. This probably sounds sappy, but that Diane Sawyer interview with Gabrielle Giffords really got me the other night. She has been through hell and she radiates light and joy; it’s amazing. I’m constantly inspired by people who stand up for what they believe in and create their own paths in life without worrying about any cookie cutter mold. I’ve been really helped and inspired by the teachings of Pema Chodron, particularly The Wisdom of No Escape and When Things Fall Apart. These are two teachings I turn to again and again for clarity and inspiration. I’m also really inspired by people with strong personal style; people who use their clothes to help express who they are.

4. In the next five years, what do you believe IBG can accomplish?

This is going to sound cliche, but I seriously think we can accomplish anything we put our minds to. I’d say the drive and determination in all of us is pretty high. I definitely see IBG becoming more of a known name and growing to not only produce more events per quarter but also events on a larger scale. I would love to plan events which include theatrical elements, like play readings or music concerts, and I absolutely believe these types of events are within our reach. Since I’ve only been involved for a short time, I’m so excited for the future of IBG, particularly the tentative plans we have for the new year!

5. What is one item or moment someone has given to you that you will never forget?

I love how I came up with these questions and have listened to five other people answer this yet I have had the hardest time coming up with my own answer! A moment that comes to mind though, is a card I got from my math tutor (who’s also a family friend) for college graduation. She tutored me all through middle school and high school, because even though I’m pretty bad at math, I somehow always ended up in the “smart people” math classes. Honors Pre Calculus was a particularly bad year for me. Anyways, in her card congratulating me on graduation, she told me she always wished she had had a daughter like me. It was such a sweet thing to hear from someone, particularly because I’ve struggled with the confidence it takes to become your own person and accept who you are.

6. Now for a Thanksgiving meat question...which would you rather fill your plate with: ham, turkey, or tofurkey?

I’m not a huge fan of ham and I’ve actually never tried Tofurkey, but I’d definitely be willing to give it a shot. So I’m going to have to go with turkey but make that fried turkey! Fried turkey is one of the south’s great gifts to the world (along with Waffle House and Chick Fil A). I normally celebrate Thanksgiving in Tennessee with some of the best fried turkey around. I’m sad to be missing it this year. I’m not sure what the trick is exactly because we leave the turkey frying to the dads, but I think it involves injecting the turkey with some sort of Cajun spices and then, of course, frying it in a vat of oil. Oh, it’s SO good.

Stay tuned next Friday for another round of Q&A’s!

GET TO KNOW IBG

Next up in our Q&A series is IBG's Business Affairs manager and Graphic Designer, Karen Mendez!

1. Describe the many different responsibilities you perform for IBG and what is the most challenging part of your job?

I manage business affairs and graphic design for IBG. Essentially I handle the administrative/ accounting aspects of our events. As far as the graphics go, I produce the programs for our events and any other artwork promotionals needed. The most challenging part has been balancing my work load both with IBG and my "9-5" job. (Those of you who know me know what I mean by "9-5".) It's a challenge, but the accomplishments are well worth it. Plus, I've never been one to back down from a challenge.

2. Can you pick a favorite moment or memory from all the fundraising events IBG has organized thus far?

This is extremely difficult...I can't choose just one; there's so many and each holds a special meaning for various reasons both on a personal and professional level. I must say, though, that the Conversation Series with Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny and Chris Carter left such a feeling of fulfillment and gratitude in terms of the amount raised for SA-YES and the scale of the event itself. Knowing we at IBG produced an event which brought together talent who's work we admire and a group of donors who got the chance to see people they admire. It was an event which raised much needed funds for such a wonderful and well deserving charity and it was truly an honor. This is why we do it, will continue to do so and why we give it our all.

3. What inspires you on a daily basis?

I, being an eternal optimist, find inspiration from so many people and things. The moon set across a gorgeous sky; the laughter of a child; my family and friends; a great movie, performance, book or play; a song or painting; the ocean; a kindness; words of wisdom...or not such wise words, but ones coming from the heart; aspiring to reach our dreams; overcoming adversity. I can go on and on, but what I also find truly inspirational is strength of will. To quote a friend and person I admire, Edith Gonzalez (actress), "the strength of will to reach our dreams is within us." Now that is truly inspirational.

4. In the next five years, what do you believe IBG can accomplish?

There are many aspirations we're striving for, both in terms of charities and causes we'd like to help bring to the forefront and events we'd like to produce. Right now we're at a point where we're making a name for ourselves, not only with the talent we work with and would like to work with, but with the donors and charities as well. I have full confidence we can grow IBG to a level where we'll be producing events on a grander scale, which in turn means much more help for all the deserving causes out there...especially the ones needing the awareness. We're well on our way, but there is much to do. Rome wasn't built in a day, but it was built nonetheless.

5. What is one item or moment someone has given to you that you will never forget?

I have been blessed with experiencing wonderful moments and receiving many meaningful things from people. I always say every experience in my life, whether good or bad was worth it for it has made me who I am and taken me to where I am...for that I am thankful. Having the friendship of my best friend, Alexandria, is not only unforgettable and means the world to me, but also holds the utmost importance in my life for many personal reasons. For that I am grateful.

6. Now for a Thanksgiving pie question...which would you rather fill your plate with: pumpkin pie, apple pie, pecan pie, or sweet potato pie?

Tiramisu!!! Not on the list? Hmmm, I say it should be on everyone's list during a holiday, gathering, or just a random day of yumminess. It's my absolute favorite dessert! Not a pie? Well I say let's make tiramisu pie!

Stay tuned next Friday for another round of Q&A’s!

GET TO KNOW IBG

Next up in our Q&A series is IBG’s Event Producer, Patricia Steffy!

1. How did you get involved with IBG and what are your official responsibilities?

I was recruited into IBG by the original three members to help produce the live events (the largest portion of my current job). There is a joke among us that they trapped me in a parking garage while they pitched the idea. Actually, that is largely true, but not as scary as it sounds. I’d met a lot of people with big ideas, so I didn’t take it all that seriously at the time. The next time I saw them, they handed me a sample program for the first, proposed event and my email address. Let’s just say I started to take them seriously after that point.

2. Out of all the fundraising events IBG has organized thus far, can you pick a favorite moment or memory?

I can’t possibly narrow this down. I loved hearing Vince Gilligan discuss the difficulties in the development of Breaking Bad, Liz Tigelaar’s discussion of casting Life Unexpected, Mitch Pileggi’s hysterical industry stories and all The X-Files events. The most recent event with Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny and Chris Carter certainly did leave an impression! I was actually leaving another event when I got the voicemail that both Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny had agreed to the IBG SA-YES event. The response from them came back so quickly that, I must admit, it took me completely by surprise. I burst out laughing in a parking lot listening to the message. A couple of months and a lot of work later, I walked into the holding room to see Gillian and David preparing to go out for the Q&A, taking official photos, etc, and that moment in the parking lot came back to me. It was by far the largest event we’ve tackled, and I’m hopeful it’s a sign of great things to come.

3. What inspires you on a daily basis?

I’m not sure there is any one thing that inspires me consistently, but collaboration frequently sparks my imagination and boosts my determination to achieve. I will say that IBG received the most amazing email from the head of SA-YES following the donation from the July event. It actually brought me to tears. When things don’t go well, or I get frustrated with any aspect of my life, I pull up that email.

4. In the next five years, what do you believe IBG can accomplish?

World peace. Ok, that might be more of a 10 year goal. Seriously, though, I think there is no limit to what IBG can achieve provided we continue to create successful collaborations with other invested, generous people (donors and celebrity guests). It will not be easy—it will take grants, expanding the donor base and continued creativity. There are a handful of major projects on the horizon—if successful, I think we’ll move into a whole new level of operations. I’d love to see us expanding the organization. We’ve brought on two really amazing people in the last couple of weeks, and I can already see a positive difference.

5. What is one item or moment someone has given to you that you will never forget?

I was recently trying to decide whether or not I was ready to leave a very comfortable corporate position for a more precarious life of a writer/producer. I was at the airport with my parents (frequent sounding boards for my major life decisions to this day), and their advice was this: “If you do nothing, you know exactly what your life holds. If you take this risk, who knows what it could bring.” It might not seem like much, but it was a truly clarifying moment for me, and it will stay with me always.

6. Now for a Thanksgiving food question...if you could only choose one, which would you rather load your plate with: mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, or stuffing?

And now I’m hungry. I’ll have to go with mashed potatoes—particularly the Yukon Gold Puree from Craft. This is the stuff of food fantasy. It takes the mashed potato concept to an out-of-body good experience.

Stay tuned next Friday for another round of Q&A’s!

NOVEMBER 2011 - FEATURED CAUSE

The featured cause IBG has chosen to highlight for November is the beneficiary cause from our upcoming "Conversation Series" event. The event will take place in LA this coming weekend, featuring former Smallville co-star and all-around talented actress, director, and producer, Allison Mack. Allison works closely with Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP), an organization that "builds a child's capacity for self-expression through art programs which inspire youth to develop the skills they need inside and outside the classroom." By connecting established and emerging artists with underserved youth, ASTEP uses the arts as a tool to foster creativity, teach life skills, and awaken young people's imaginations.

Since 2003, ASTEP has partnered with community organizations and schools to deliver after-school, weekend, and summer arts education and empowerment programs. ASTEP currently serves three communities—New York, New York; Homestead, Florida; and Bangalore, India. For information on how to get involved or donate, please visit our website: www.asteponline.org.

GET TO KNOW IBG

Next up in our series is IBG Inc’s Webmaster, Caileigh Scott!

1. What is the most challenging part of your responsibilities for IBG?

I primarily serve as the webmaster, so the biggest challenge often comes from meeting tight deadlines for web updates. In our business, no matter how meticulously one plans, things can still change at the last minute — I have to sometimes be available on very short notice to make necessary alterations, so our website always reflects the most accurate and up-to-date information about the company and any upcoming events. It's important to us this is the case, as nothing is more frustrating than visiting a site with outdated information, which only leaves you more confused than when you arrived. There have been times when I've been out running errands, a major time-sensitive update has come through, and I've dropped everything and run into the nearest Starbucks or Kinkos to get the information on our site.

2. Out of all the fundraising events IBG has organized thus far, which one have you enjoyed most and why?

That's actually a difficult question, because I have so many good memories from the events of the past few years. One of the most fulfilling, however, was this summer's Conversation with Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, which raised over $30,000 for SA-YES. It was very surreal; this idea we'd written on a diner napkin in 2008 had actually blossomed into a real agent of change. As with any labor of love, there have been extreme highs and lows, but it's all worth it when those moments hit home. What made that event even more special is that SA-YES, the charity the event proceeds benefited, is a small charity we've been actively fundraising for almost since their inception. They do incredible work, and it was such an honor to be able to help them on that level.

3. What inspires you on a daily basis?

Without sounding too cliche or corny, the world around me serves as great inspiration. I grew up in an artistic environment and am in the arts myself, and often draw inspiration from the lyrics of a song, a dramatic sunset, a baby fascinated by its own toes, et cetera. I also do my best to surround myself with people whom I find inspiring, and continually emulate those who I feel use their position in life - whatever that is - for the greater good. I'm inspired by people with barely anything of their own who devote their lives to serving others. I'm inspired by people who have everything imaginable and more, and use their public image to bring aid to those who need it most, and encourage others to do the same.

4. In the next five years, what do you believe IBG can accomplish?

I believe IBG will continue to grow as an organization. There are many things we'd like to do, both in terms of events we want to host and charities we'd like to benefit, and I truly believe within the next five years we will grow ourselves to a place where we can host several large scale benefits each year. Right now we're still in the process of making a name for ourselves – proving ourselves in a way – earning the trust of both the talent we involve and the donors we attract. As more and more people come to know about IBG and the work we do, doors will open more easily and we'll be able to do exponentially more good in the world.

5. What is one item or moment someone has given to you that you will never forget?

I attended a rigorous drama conservatory for my post-secondary education, and had an acting teacher who was extremely strict. While it was a stressful semester, I'll never forget running into him in the hall toward the end of our time together. I stopped to thank him for his guidance, and his eyes teared up a little, he looked me directly in the eye, and told me how proud he was of me and how much I'd grown as an artist in the past few months. I'll never forget that. I'd never seen him let his guard down before, and he wasn't one to hand out compliments just for the sake of being nice. It was a moment where I felt all of my hard work and sleepless nights were validated by improvement and achievement - something I carry with me to this day.

6. Now for a Halloween candy question ...which would you rather receive in your candy bag and why: a Snickers bar or a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup?

Oh, definitely a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. I'm not saying I don't also enjoy a Snickers bar, but there's something magical about a peanut butter and chocolate combo. Also, I lived near Hershey, PA for awhile as a child, and I'd always stock up on Reese’s when we went to the huge candy emporium (seriously every child's FANTASY land) at Hershey Park. While I like caramel, I'm not a huge fan of peanuts or cashews or any nut-like entities in my candy. I just like it straight-up bad for you. A Peanut Butter Cup doesn't take effort to chew, it goes down smooth and always leaves you wanting more.

Be sure to check our blog next Friday for another round of Q&A’s!

GET TO KNOW IBG

Next up in our series is IBG Inc’s CEO, Danielle Turchiano!

1. Describe the many different responsibilities you perform for IBG.

I am IBG, Inc.'s CEO as well as Publicity Coordinator. Primarily as Publicity Coordinator, my job entails media outreach: preparing promotional materials, working with various outlets for coverage of our events and fundraising efforts, and coordinating interview opportunities. As CEO, I am also responsible for customer service and correspondence, as well as a number of internal duties that come with being a board member.

2. Can you pick a favorite moment or memory from all the fundraising events IBG has organized thus far?

For me, our "Conversation with Life Unexpected" held in December 2009 was a particular high point for a number of reasons. The people we worked with on the event, from showrunner Liz Tigelaar to actor Kristoffer Polaha, are some of my favorites working in the industry today, and I was very involved in the show's run as a blogger. To be able to bring them in front of a number of their fans for really the first and only time, since the show wasn't getting a renewal, was a big deal. The stories they told were both heartfelt and poignant on the backdrop of knowing they'd all be going their separate ways. Add on top of it the fact that we got to raise money not only for such a worthy cause but also a domestic one-- Portland Boys & Girls Aid-- meant that much more to me. I really believe there is something to the phrase "charity starts at home," and there are still so many areas and organizations right here in the U.S. that need help-- a light shone on them, a little extra seed money, positive press, etc. Whenever I can, I like to draw attention to them.

3. What inspires you on a daily basis?

Working in the entertainment business can be really eye-opening. So much of it is a business, and often money and image are placed in front of the importance of artistry. There are so many who "make it" only to use their excessive fame and fortune for ridiculous, meaningless, superfluous things. There are so many who are big talkers and like to spout off about what they could do, or what they want to do, but they don't actually do anything past posturing. But then there are those who not only still embody the artistic spirit but also follow up good intentions with action, using their names and recognizability to give back to those less fortunate. Those people are some of my biggest inspirations; always have been. I was a kid who grew up with the TV as my babysitter, teacher, and role model, and seeing so many of the very real people behind the larger-than-life personas actually caring to make a difference inspires me to, also. The people we have partnered with for events and fundraisers in the past fit this build, but there are so many others out there (that maybe someday we will partner with) that fit, too-- people like Zachary Levi or Maggie Q or Bianca Kajlich.

4. In the next five years, what do you believe IBG can accomplish?

There is still a laundry list of causes for which I hope IBG can throw beneficiary events, including a few (like the PKD Foundation, The Oral Cancer Society, and A Dog's Life Rescue) we’ve already talked about doing in the past but which, at this point in the business, are not yet feasible for a number of reasons: time, cost, and celebrity involvement all included. Over the next five years, I really want to see IBG continuously growing, throwing bigger and better events, getting more and more known for our name and what we do on our own, instead of simply associated with a particular fandom because of an event we are throwing. I want to get us to a point as a business where we can take on more staff, so that we have enough hands to plan even more events per quarter than we currently do-- expanding to throw events outside of L.A. on occasion, as well.

5. What is one item or moment someone has given to you that you will never forget?

I've told this story before, in my pop culture memoir (not so subtle plug), but it was still the first thing that came to mind with this question, so I think it's worth repeating. There was a moment when I was eight or nine and was asked to stay after school for a minute. I can't remember exactly what the scenario was surrounding the event, but I know the gist was a friend of mine had gotten in trouble for something and ratted me out as the mastermind. Whatever it was, I had convinced my friend to do the dirty work so I wouldn't be the one to get in trouble. My third grade teacher basically pulled me aside, and without really judging me, told me I had to be really careful about what I said and did because other kids were looking to me as a leader and would be influenced by me. It was the first time I really considered the idea that someone other than me was paying attention to me, and it really stuck with me (clearly). I decided I liked the idea of being a leader; I just had to decide what kind of leader I wanted to be.

6. And for fun...Who wins in a battle: Superman or a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle?

I’m not afraid to admit I was never really into comic books as a kid, but I WAS into Saturday morning cartoons. So to this day I have way more knowledge about the TMNT than I do Superman, and I'm going to have to give them the edge, even if it's only wishful thinking. Superman is supposed to be about saving innocent people, so as much as he can be stronger than most, I see him more as a pacifist (again, I haven't actually read the comics, so please don't send me angry mythology emails; this is just an impression I get from the imagery and from Smallville, if I'm being completely honest). The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles battle for a living, and they come equipped with their own battle tools, while Superman does not. And the TMNT live in the sewers. That alone makes them more hardcore than most. ...Oh, and I know you didn't ask, but for the record my favorite was always Leonardo.

Be sure to check our blog next Friday for another round of Q&A’s!

GET TO KNOW IBG!

For the next few weeks, we’re going to post a series of Q&A’s with our IBG members so everyone can get to know us a little bit better. First up is Elizabeth De Razzo!

1. Can you describe the many different responsibilities you perform for IBG?

I’m the talent coordinator. So, I reach out to talent and extend invitations to our charity events, hoping they’ll say yes. Then I coordinate logistics and everything to do with them up until that point whether it’s flights or pick ups or cars, whatever it is they want. I go back and forth with their publicists, their managers and whatnot to meet the talent’s needs. Once we’re at the actual event, I’m their contact person. I take care of them the whole time they’re at the event. All the people who participate in our events donate their time so sometimes things might come up they didn’t know about a few months before when they agreed to do the event so I coordinate if they need to leave earlier than they anticipated. I also reach out to the charities and let them know we’re doing an event in their name. I ask if they would like to give us information and if they would like to send someone to the event to explain to our attendees what their organization is about. We work with a huge amount of charities because there are so many micro funded organizations around the world.

2. Can you pick a favorite moment or memory from all the fundraising events IBG has organized thus far?

It would have to be our recent event with Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny when we realized how much we had raised for SA-YES. It was because it had the weight of everything up until that point we had worked on. I just thought “oh my god, we’re actually on the right track, we’re actually making a change”. It hit me in the moment that this little thing we started in 2008 - that came from a night we were drinking coffee in a diner at 4 am - has now raised over $100,000. We started with absolutely nothing and we did it all by ourselves, with the help obviously of everyone who participated and came to all of our events. I think that was one of the best moments in IBG history.

3. What inspires you on a daily basis?

People being kind to each other. When you see an act of kindness in front of you. Music, because I love to sing and I think music has the ability to touch you in ways that many things can’t. Creativity, whether it’s a television show or a movie. I love movies with messages; you take something from it and you go off with it. There are many different people in the industry that inspire me. IBG was inspired because of the work of so many people, whether it’s Gillian Anderson, Kate Walsh, or Steve Buscemi. IBG was born from that aspect of where we admired someone and we wanted to pay it forward.

4. In the next five years, what do you believe IBG can accomplish?

I believe we’ll be at the point where we make a much bigger impact than we’ve done now. We’ll hopefully have our own office, and not have to struggle to get people to sign on for events, even though we’ve had very generous people to date who have donated their time. Still, some people don’t know us. So I hope and believe that in five years, people will know us by name. I believe everybody who is here now will be there. I believe we will be a fully functioning non profit organization, not that we aren’t right now, but be at a level where people are donating to us because they believe in what we’re doing. Hopefully we’ll no longer have to struggle with the costs of putting these events together. What we do is great work. We put the word out there and we make people aware of causes they might not have heard about before.

5. What is one item or moment someone has given to you that you will never forget?

It was 1999, I was a senior in high school. I had become really close to my high school history teacher, Ms. Sosa, who taught me freshman through senior year. She surprised me with two things: she bought me my prom dress because I couldn’t afford to buy my own and she took me to my first concert. I drove with her to San Antonio on a Sunday to see Aerosmith and Lenny Kravitz and we ended up skipping school that Monday. It was crazy because I’d never been to a concert and I was there with this person whom I completely looked up to. The fact that she would do something like this for me was amazing. Then after I remember she bought me their cds and bought me my first discman.

6. Now for a Halloween themed fun question...Who wins in a battle: Frankenstein or Dracula and why?

Well, I just don’t know how Dracula would kill Frankenstein because he’s dead alive. But so is Dracula. I guess it depends on what kind of vampire you have. Is it like a Bela Lugosi vampire or like the new vampires from Twilight or The Vampire Diaries? I just don’t think Frankenstein can die. Unless you take off his head. Wait...I thought the question was who would kill who, but the question is who would win in a fight. If you’re asking who would win in a fight not including death, I think Dracula might be a little more quicker on his feet than Frankenstein. I always think even if people are bigger than me, I’m scrappy, and I can probably outlast them. So I’ll say Dracula but only because he’s tiny.

OCTOBER 2011 - FEATURED CAUSE

So many non-profit organizations have become corporate in size, with hundreds of people in varying departments from fundraising to grant writing to marketing and event production. But Outpost for Hope is run by just four people and is driven to success by sheer determination, positive energy, and the goodwill of others who want to volunteer their time and services. Outpost for Hope works across the country to help find missing persons and children who have fallen "off the grid." The NPO works alongside families of the missing, as well as law enforcement agencies, forensics teams, and mental health workers to find the missing.

Outpost for Hope provides a Family Resource Guide to empower families in crisis during their search for a lost loved one, a well as information on how to proceed legally and safely when a loved one is located. They also provide educational programs and guides for law enforcement and other agencies. Outpost for Hope prides itself on being an "information resource" that helps all of those involved in searching for an unreported missing person, as well. Though there are over one hundred thousand FBI documented missing person cases in the United States, the number of those missing but not listed in the National Crime Information Center is actually over one million. Outpost For Hope does not discriminate; they work to help find every missing person. For more information, please visit their website at www.outpostforhope.org.

SEPTEMBER 2011 - FEATURED CAUSE

IBG Inc. does a lot of fundraising for causes based overseas, but that does not mean there are not those that hit a bit closer to home on which we don't also want to shine a spotlight. There's a reason there's a saying that "charity starts at home," and one worthy cause that has touched us is right in our Los Angeles backyard: A Place Called Home.

http://www.apch.org/

A Place Called Home is located in South Central Los Angeles, a youth center and self-described "safe haven" for kids who might fall too easily to the streets without somewhere to spend their time and some mentors to inspire them to pursue their passions. Similarly to SA-Yes but working at a much more localized level, A Place Called Home provides everything from education programs and school supplements, to counseling and formal mentoring, to extracurricular classes that dabble in the arts and athletics, all designed to give the youth of Los Angeles a better chance at a brighter future.

If you're local to the Los Angeles area, you can get involved in a number of programs and events with A Place Called Home or simply volunteer your time to help a kid in need. In the spring A Place Called Home hosts the Cinderella Project, giving young girls all across the southland beautiful gowns so they can attend their proms and school formals.

AUGUST 2011 - FEATURED CAUSE

Last month IBG Inc's C.E.O. Danielle Turchiano, in her day job, had a chance to chat with Zachary Levi about his own "Conversation" series of events being held during the inaugural Nerd HQ convention in San Diego. Levi's model was similar to IBG's own event model, in that he sold a limited number of seats for intimate celebrity Q&As, with proceeds being donated to a charitable cause. Since Levi is an ambassador for Operation Smile, all of his event proceeds went there, and we were so inspired by his passion for the non-profit, we want to highlight them so though Nerd HQ may be over, the giving can be on-going. Operation Smile is a global children's charity that works to heal and empower children that was founded in 1982. Operation Smile believes that every child deserves to feel good about themselves, and the best way they can do that is to smile. But unfortunately, many children are born with abnormalities that make them self-conscious or make it physically painful to actually do so. So Operation Smile pays for and coordinates needed surgeries for children with cleft palates or other facial deformities. Currently Operation Smile has a presence in over sixty countries, treating children on both local and international missions, and is constantly working to lend further hands where they can. Any little bit can help make these kids' smiles so much brighter. You can find out how to further support Operation Smile, either through donation or volunteering to participate in a mission, on their official website: www.operationsmile.org.

A CONVERSATION WITH GILLIAN ANDERSON & DAVID DUCHOVNY ft. SPECIAL GUEST CHRIS CARTER

On Saturday, 30 July 2011, IBG gathered in Beverly Hills for a special, extended version of our ongoing Conversation Series, featuring former The X-Files co-stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, along with special guest, creator of The X-Files Chris Carter, to raise money for SA-YES. Unlike other Conversation Series events, this time there was no moderator - instead, Gillian and David asked each other questions, and engaged in a real conversation that was both hilarious and poignant. They were later joined by Chris Carter, and the three chatted and answered questions from the audience. After the main portion, VIP ticket holders had the opportunity to partake in an autograph session with Gillian and Chris, and those who purchased separate photo tickets received one-on-one posed photos with Gillian Anderson!! There were also meet-and-greets prior to the event, and two lucky raffle winners also received the opportunity to head backstage for their own brief meeting with Gillian and David. Inspired by the creative opportunities to raise money for SA-YES, Gillian surprised those awaiting their one-on-one photos with her by ducking into the room and auctioning off the paper she'd printed her questions for David on, offering to sign it and personalize the message!! Over 32,000 USD has been raised from this event thus far, with upcoming auctions of signed memorabilia to come.

JULY 2011 - FEATURED CAUSE

In honor of IBG Inc's upcoming special Conversation Series event with Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny, and special guest Chris Carter on July 30, we thought there was no better cause to spotlight for the month than SA-YES, the beneficiary of said event. SA-YES [South African Youth Education for Sustainability] was formerly OTSK and should not be confused with the San Antonio Youth Education Scholarship that utilizes the same acronym. SA-YES is a somewhat new charity, started only in 2008 [hey, just like us!], to provide support for the youth of South Africa, specifically Cape Town. Their main focus is to provide guidance that will enable the youth to "develop their skills, further their education and source suitable housing, in order for them to participate in society as independent, mature, responsible adults." SA-YES does this by carefully matching each child in their program with a targeted mentor. Since so many of these children are living on their own, SA-YES believes that offering them role models will not only help them stay out of trouble but also quite literally keep them off the streets. You can learn more about the cause here, sa-yes.com.

JUNE 2011 - FEATURED CAUSE

Last month IBG Inc had the pleasure of collaborating with actor Mitch Pileggi [The X-Files, Supernatural] on one of our Conversation Series events, the proceeds of which went to a charity of Pileggi's choosing, Share Our Strength®. It is such a worthy cause, we wanted to highlight them further to encourage you to read up about the good work they are doing and support them throughout the year.

Share Our Strength is a national nonprofit working towards ending childhood hunger in America, but more than just wanting each child to have enough for three square meals a day, they want to make sure those meals are healthy and nutritious to give children the best shot at a long life. Share Our Strength works to create public and private partnerships at both the city and state level in order to combat child hunger in the most at-risk areas. They believe that by improving the access that families have to healthy and affordable food, no child will be left hungry.

Obviously public awareness and education are a big part of the Share Our Strength mission, so IBG Inc is proud to be able to do our part to shed some light on the cause. If you would like more information, or are interested in making a donation, you can visit their official website at http://www.strength.org/.

3rd ANNUAL "ALL THINGS" GLOBAL FUNDRAISER

Throughout the month of April, fans of Gillian Anderson are celebrating her work on television and in films during this international, month-long fundraiser benefiting OTSK. On Saturday, 16 April 2011, IBG hosted the Los Angeles event at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills. Fans gathered mid-morning to begin a marathon of The X-Files Paley Panel from 1995, as well as two pre-selected episodes and a third episode chosen by group vote. By complete coincidence, the doctor that Dr. Bambi Berenbaum from the episode "War of the Coprophages" [s3e12] was based on happened to be in the building at the very same time, doing research in the Paley library!!

APRIL 2011 - FEATURED CAUSE

This month, IBG features 600Million.org. They are a non-profit organization that is committed to ending the widespread suffering and death within the stray dog population worldwide. Their mission is to do so by funding the development and global distribution of an oral sterilization pill, which will dramatically reduce stray populations by limiting reproduction, thereby preventing the birth of literally billions of puppies each year. These puppies typically live under appalling conditions or are killed by "stray dog control methods," which include poisoning, shooting, electrocution, beating to death, and worse.

ONE DAY EARTH

One Day on Earth began in September 2008 as a new media project to create a unique video time capsule, global online community, and feature length film—all from participant footage captured during the 24-hour period of October 10, 2010. Founder/Director Kyle Ruddick and Executive Producer Brandon Litman established the project as a shared archive, allowing all participants to create their own edited interpretation of the world. Producer/editor Michael Klima will help manage the post-production process. OCTOBER 2010 - FEATURED CAUSE

The Lung Cancer Foundation of America's [LCFA] purpose is to save lives by improving the survival rate of lung cancer. They do this by raising money from the private sector and channeling those funds to lung cancer researchers, so that researchers find effective ways to predict, detect, and treat lung cancer. Their mission is to save lives by dramatically increasing the five-year survival rates for all stages of lung cancer, the nation's leading cause of cancer deaths for both men and women. The LCFA sets out to accomplish this by providing the necessary and critical funding for creative and leading edge lung cancer research programs.

The LCFA was established by two lung cancer survivors and one lung cancer widow. While their life experiences vary greatly, the three realized that the poor lung cancer survival rate is the direct result of lack of funding for lung cancer research. After speaking with the top lung cancer researchers in the country, the founders saw how diligently they were working to unlock the secrets unique to the disease, yet were having to devote a great deal of time to fighting for funding from the federal government. With federal funding so difficult and time-consuming to attain, and very little private funding available, founders Kim Norris, Lori Monroe and David Sturges set out to focus substantial funding from the private sector on lung cancer research, allowing researchers and clinicians the time and money to devote to their work. In their words, "It's lung cancer's turn." For more information and to get involved, please visit their website.

SEPTEMBER 2010 - FEATURED CAUSE

Random Acts is a division of The Art Department, Inc., and is dedicated to charitable giving, volunteerism and brightening communities through "spontaneous acts of kindness, gratitude, beauty and love." Random Acts is an US-based 501[c][3] non-profit organization, founded in December 2009 by Supernatural star Misha Collins and Lisa Walker. The organization's mission is to conquer the world one random act of kindness at a time, and they work with volunteers on five continents to do so, encouraging people of all ages to contribute by doing good works in the world. Thus far they have raised over 30,000 USD for Collins' "Pony Up" campaign for Haiti, given bicycles to strangers resting in a park, provided supplies to children to create art in a square in Russia, presented a deserving child with a computer and printer, and much more. On 05 September 2010, Misha Collins will be running a marathon to raise money for Random Acts in order to benefit the three orphanages in Haiti the charity supports, as well as flood relief efforts in Pakistan. To learn more about the organization, or if you would like to pledge or donate now to help Random Acts conquer the world, one random act of kindness at a time, please visit their website.

IBG MEMBER UPDATE

Ever wonder what IBG members do when not prepping unique live events or collecting items for auction? Well, our CEO Danielle Turchiano, for one, is hard at work in another area of the entertainment industry: writing. Some of you may already know that she writes for a handful of entertainment news blogs, but she is also a published author, and we are proud to announce that her newest book, "My Life, Made Possible by Pop Culture" (based on her blog of the same name) has been published through CreateSpace. In it she explores the world of 90s TV, fandoms, and adolescence by sharing stories of her awkward attempts at finding real life relationships to match the examples "reel" life relationships set for her. Check out the official press release to find out more information, including how you can order a copy!

AUGUST 2010 - FEATURED CAUSE
This month IBG is featuring the Oral Cancer Foundation. The OCF is a national public service, non-profit entity designed to reduce suffering and save lives through prevention, education, research, advocacy, and patient support activities. Close to 36,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or pharyngeal cancer every year. The death rate of oral cancer is higher than that of cancers we hear about routinely, which is attributed not to it being difficult to discover or diagnose, but due to the cancer being often discovered late in its development.

To learn more about the Oral Cancer Foundation, to contribute to the Bruce Paltrow Fund, or to become a member, please visit their website.

FUNDRAISER UPDATE

This past April groups from around the world took part in the 2nd annual "all things" fundraiser. Each team set forth to raise funds for ANSA in honour of Gillian Anderson, a champion of the cause, by hosting marathons of her films and The X-Files episode she helmed. The hosts that raised the most money received a special prize, which was revealed to them once event totals were in. IBG would like to congratulate our French hosts, Roxane and Agathe, for all the hard work and ingenuity that led them to the top for a second consecutive year. Much to their surprise and delight, Roxane and Agathe were able to submit several questions of their choice to Ms. Anderson. They were thrilled at the opportunity, and with the answers Ms. Anderson so generously and thoughtfully provided. Thank you, to everyone who participated, for making this event fun, fabulous and successful!!

IBG would like to thank everyone involved in our most successful fundraiser to date, the Castle set visit auctions to benefit The Relational Center, which raised nearly 12,000 USD for the organsiation. Congratulations to the very generous and lucky winners, who had the chance to spend a day on set during the month of April. Many thanks to director Rob Bowman for graciously donating the set visits, Sophie Addie for her assistance in coordinating it all, as well as the cast and crew of ABC's Castle who went out of their way to warmly welcome the winners to set!!

FUNDRAISER UPDATE

Pam Tomlinson, the President and CEO of the
Kids Defense Team, wrote in to let us know that she received the funds raised for her organisation from the Believe Again event and auctions. Kids Defense Team was the charity selected by Rob Bowman to benefit from his participation. The organisation's sole purpose is to improve the lives of homeless children and teenagers, as well as those living in low-income households. Through donations of clothing and school supplies, support and assistance to the families, and programmes that enrich both educationally and culturally, the Kids Defense Team is changing and improving the lives of countless underprivileged youths. The funds collected by IBG will assist Ms. Tomlinson and everyone at KDT in providing imminent care, clothing and resources to two young children who very recently became homeless and lost all of their possessions, as well as assisting other clients also in need of clothing and support this very brutal winter.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in
Believe Again in some way for helping IBG in contributing to this very worthy cause. The plight of the children served by the Kids Defense Team is heartbreaking and inspiring. Please visit their website and consider an additional contribution. You may also join KDT on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

FUNDRAISER UPDATE

We would like to extend our extreme gratitude to all who participated in our recent eBay auctions. These auctions, in conjunction with November's Believe Again event, helped us to raise approximately 20,000 USD for the charities selected by the event's panelists: Gillian Anderson, Rob Bowman, Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz. The funds from the Q&A and auctions will be divided among Fezeka, Kids Defense Team, Off The Street Kids and the Rape Treatment Center. Without the generosity of the above panelists – who not only donated their time for the Meet & Greets, Q&A and autograph session, but also signed several dozen items for auction each – as well as actor David Duchovny [who was sadly unable to attend but signed thirty memorabilia items for the eBay portion of the raise], this incredible outcome would not have been possible.

06 JANUARY 2010

Happy New Year!! IBG is back from holiday and we are excited to kick off 2010 with some fabulous events and exciting news. Head over to our Events page to learn about our upcoming wine tasting in January [to support IBG's continued fundraising efforts].

In addition to our own endeavours this year, a wonderful cause was recently brought to our attention. In late 2009, it was announced that Supernatural star Jared Padalecki endorses the charity A Dog's Life Rescue, which works to find homes for hundreds if not thousands of abused, neglected, or stray animals across Los Angeles. They host adoption events and spread awareness about the importance of spaying, neutering, and providing care for homeless animals. Ever since the announcement went public, the girls of Support Supernatural have diligently spread the word through Facebook, Twitter, and newsletter campaigns to raise money from the series' fans. This year they are teaming up with Creation Entertainment [which fans of the show may recognise as bringing the fabulous "Salute to Supernatural" conventions to life], to provide extra incentive for fans to donate. Each month, anyone who donates more than 10 USD will be automatically entered to win a Supernatural merchandise/memorabilia prize that Creation Entertainment is so generously providing. This month's stakes? A collection of autographed photos entitled "The Handsome Hunks of Supernatural."

Support Supernatural has a lofty goal of 30,000 USD for their 31 December 2010 deadline, so go forth and donate here [and often]!! IBG, Inc. is proud to support this campaign and asks all of our supporters to consider donating, whether or not you may be fans of the Supernatural series, as this very worthy cause deserves as much support as possible.

21 NOVEMBER 2009

Thank you very much to everyone who came out to Beverly Hills on Saturday, 14 November 2009 and made "Believe Again" an overwhelming success. Our extreme gratitude goes out to our amazing panelists – Gillian Anderson, Rob Bowman, Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz – our moderator, Erin Fox, as well as everyone who participated either in person or virtually.

Through an afternoon of Meet & Greets, a Q&A panel, a VIP autograph session and cocktail party, IBG, Inc. was able to raise much-needed funds for Fezeka, Kids Defense Team, Off The Street Kids and Rape Treatment Center.

01 NOVEMBER 2009

Less than two weeks until Believe Again: A Celebration of The X-Files. The IBG team is gearing up for the event and looks forward to seeing you there!! While the VIP tickets have sold out, there are still a limited number of General Seating tickets available. We have also released Student Tickets, which offer the same experience as the General Seating admission at a reduced price to those presenting their 2009 fall semester student IDs.

In auction news, this week marks your last chance to win a Meet & Greet with Gillian Anderson or Frank Spotnitz. Also up for bidding at the moment is one of the Mitch Pileggi Meet & Greets. Remember, all Meet & Greets ensure a VIP experience at the event, as well!!

IBG is not only committed to raising funds for Children of the Night, Fezeka, OTSK, and the Rape Treatment Center this month through Believe Again. In addition to this fan extravaganza, we are on the host committee for The Relational Center's fall fundraiser. Please join us on Friday, 13 November 2009

05 OCTOBER 2009

On Saturday, 03 October 2009, IBG, Inc. was fortunate enough to be able to attend a fundraiser in Simi Valley, CA to benefit the medical treatment of Judi Ward, actor Mitch Pileggi's [The X-Files, Stargate: Atlantis, Grey's Anatomy] sister. Ms. Ward was recently diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma [LMS], a very rare form of cancer. As she is uninsured and at this time does not qualify for California assistance programmes such as Medi-Cal or Medicare, the family has come together to reach out for donations to help fund Ms. Ward's treatment and recovery. Please see IBG, Inc. CEO Danielle Turchiano's comprehensive write-up of the event here.

At the fundraiser, held at PC's Bar & Grill, an excellent and somewhat rowdy time was had by all. IBG enjoyed bar food, libations, several rousing rounds of a raffle [that included highly coveted designer bags, handmade jewelry and best of all, alcohol], lovely autographed door prizes and an overall fun-filled and worthwhile afternoon with an absolutely amazing family. We recently spoke with Ms. Ward's daughter and she informed us that the event raised over 3000 USD for her mother's treatment. While this is truly an accomplishment for one afternoon, the fundraising cannot stop there. We urge those who were unable to attend or who were unaware of the fundraiser to visit http://www.judiwardlmsfundraiser.yolasite.com/, where one can directly contribute to Ms. Ward.

21 SEPTEMBER 2009

On 21 September 2009, IBG, Inc. joined forces with dozens of non-profits worldwide to bring The Age of Stupid to over four hundred screens across the globe, helping the film to break their own record [set in London, UK] for the largest film premiere in history. We are proud to announce that the screening we were given ownership of in Century City, CA was sold out!! One of our own members nearly didn't have a seat inside the theatre. For over two hours the crowd was captivated by the Green Carpet arrivals, the film itself and the Q&A session afterward. The brilliance of The Age of Stupid is that it touches upon the humanity of the environmental crisis the world is facing. While we've heard statistics and scare tactics on the news for several years, writer and director Franny Armstrong taps into our very basic need to connect to other people and, through that, not only reach a higher understanding but also a sense of truly caring about the environmental state of the world. Throughout the course of the film, facts are presented in a way that is not only clear and concise, but puts human faces onto a problem that is often presented as anything but human. When we hear the same statistics and predictions time and time again, slowly we begin to tune those out and retreat to a more comfortable state of blissful ignorance, or denial. When suddenly forced to see the impending catastrophe and the causes of the environmental disaster through the eyes of a young African woman hoping to be a doctor but confined by societal disadvantage, an older mountain guide in France who has seen firsthand climate change over the course of several decades, a former Shell scientist who lost all he had in Hurricane Katrina, a young family pioneering wind power while facing immense resistance in rural England ... suddenly, the victims are human. The facts make sense. We've connected to this issue in a personal, emotional way.

Please visit
Age of Stupid to see if the film will be playing in a cinema near you, to donate to the cause, and to get involved.

18 SEPTEMBER 2009

IBG is thrilled to announce some updates for Believe Again: A Celebration of The X-Files 14 November Q&A event in Los Angeles, CA. We now have confirmed writer and executive producer Frank Spotnitz along with actress Gillian Anderson.* To learn more about the fun-filled Phile day, please head over to the Events page. Ticket information will be available on Monday, tickets will go on sale Tuesday. For those coming in from out-of-town, you may begin looking into hotel offers and discounted airfare on Travelocity, Hotels.com, and Expedia. We would advise non-locals to arrange for a rental car – Hertz, Budget and Enterprise are all reputable and available at LAX – as public transportation in Los Angeles is not extensive and is often not a viable option. Many hotels offer car services, please inquire when making your reservations. Please note that in Los Angeles cabs must be called in advance and are not necessarily available to hail. Arrangements may be made via hotel concierge or by looking into United Taxi, LA Yellow Cab, or Taxi Cabs LA. Private car services may be arranged either through a hotel concierge or with Crown Limousine LA [when booking, mention you found them on Yelp! for a 10% discount], Pacific Town Car, or LA Town Car Services.

Senator Edward M. Kennedy [D - MA] lost his battle with brain cancer on 25 August 2009, at the age of seventy-seven. Senator Kennedy spent forty-seven years pioneering rights advocacy for those who needed it most. One of the most influential politicians of our time, he spent his career championing for the basic fundamental rights and equality for all. America has lost a giant, and many have lost their most outspoken advocate. He dedicated his life to serving his underfunded and overlooked fellow Americans; his commitment to the voiceless, the LGBT community, Veterans, seniors and the impoverished, those without access to health care or education in the world's wealthiest nation, civil rights, environmental protection, global human rights, et cetera, speaks for itself. His colleagues, both friends and adversaries, were made stronger by the Senator's strength in his own beliefs. In his own words: "Every American should have the opportunity to receive a high quality education, a job that respects their dignity and protects their safety, and health care that does not condemn those whose health is impaired to a lifetime of poverty and lost opportunity." He will live on in the future that he made. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

In lieu of flowers, the Kennedy family requests that those wishing to memorialise their beloved patriarch consider a contribution for educational programming at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. To learn more about brain cancer and the strides being made in brain cancer research, please visit Voices Against Brain Cancer, the American Brain Tumor Association and the American Cancer Society.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dream shall never die."

25 AUGUST 2009

We are very proud to celebrate IBG's one-year anniversary today. It was on 25 August 2008 that we decided to take our napkin scribbles to the next level, and one year later we are an incorporated 501[c][3], applying for grants and checking out office space. As a special treat to commemorate the day, we offer you some thoughts from our inaugural event's guest of honour. Without further ado we present "just a little something" for your reading pleasure ... IBG's interview with The X-Files' writer and executive producer, and founder of Big Light Productions, Mr. Frank Spotnitz.

A Moment with Mr. Spotnitz

1. We recently became aware of your interest and support for the UCLA-Santa Monica Medical Center: Rape Treatment Center. How did you first become involved with the charity?

My wife, Melissa Lefante, became involved with the Rape Treatment Center through a friend.  The center has made a huge difference in the lives of thousands of people by providing 24-hour emergency care, evidence collection and counseling for victims; training for police and prosecutors; and prevention education in schools.  They also serve the special needs of kids who are victims of sexual abuse at Stuart House, which is an international model for the treatment of child victims.

2. Other than the Rape Treatment Center, what are the other charities [or specific issues] that you feel need more attention or would like to see addressed?

There are so many worthy causes that it's really impossible to address them all.  In addition to the Rape Treatment Center, I have been deeply moved by the work Paul Farmer's Partners in Health does serving the health needs of the poor in developing countries.

3. We were thrilled to read about your new projects in Variety.  Anything else you’d like to share on these or any projects not mentioned in the article?

No, that's all for now.  But there is definitely more to come  ... !

4. Fans still fondly remember the comments made by Fox Films Entertainment Co-Chairman Tom Rothman, when he indicated that the future of the franchise was up to the creative team. How is that third X-Files film coming?

Chris, David and Gillian and I would all like to make it.  We're still waiting to see whether the studio will support it.

5. On the work front, although fans would love to see another X-Files film, would you ever consider working with either David or Gillian on a non-X-Files-related project?

Yes! I would jump at the chance.

A truly wonderful cause was recently brought to our attention. A three year old girl named Jenna Marie Jenkins suffers from Dravet Syndrome, a rare seizure disorder. According to A Dog For Jenna, despite vigorous treatment with medication she has been seizing daily since 10 May 2009, when she first experienced a Grand Mal seizure. Since these intense seizures can happen at any time, her family has set out on a mission to obtain a highly specialised seizure alert dog. The training for these life-saving canines runs into the tens of thousands and, despite competently providing a loving home for Jenna and her two brothers as well as providing Jenna with the medications she needs, the cost is beyond feasibility for the family. In response, Jenna's parents are reaching out for the selfless donations of others in order to assist them in providing this life-saving canine for her. The Jenkins family has established a fund to further their goal of obtaining a Seizure Service Dog for their daughter.

Please visit A Dog For Jenna to read more about Jenna, Dravet Syndrome and to donate. The family will accept any dollar amount one is able to contribute. Please also visit The Epilepsy Foundation to learn more about seizure disorders at large and the many ways in which a Seizure Service Dog may prevent injury and save lives.

We have some very exciting things in the works presently. As we are in the planning stages of several events, our weekly meetings have become day-long events and are often held more than just once per week. Over veggies and caffeine at our Brentwood headquarters [or occasionally over appetisers at a nearby eatery, when the need to see the sunshine and reenter society overwhelms us], we are kicking into high gear as the autumn event season approaches. Also of note, 25 August 2009 marks the one-year anniversary of IBG. At this moment one year ago, none of us even fathomed that we'd shortly join forces on an ongoing philanthropic endeavour. Life's funny that way.

FUNDRAISER UPDATE

We recently received a letter from the American Cancer Society regarding the donation from the IBG online fundraiser in memory of director Kim Manners, held earlier this year. FUNDRAISER UPDATE

Our inaugural fundraiser took place on 6 December 2008 in Los Angeles. Not only did we have a Q&A with The X-Files' writer and executive producer Frank Spotnitz - moderated by TVGuide.com's Erin Fox - we also held a double-feature screening of Fight the Future and I Want to Believe. This event marked the first time since its theatrical release in the summer of 1998 that Fight the Future was seen on the silver screen. The IBG Team was moved and humbled by the enthusiasm and involvement of Mr. Spotnitz, Ms. Fox, 20th Century Fox, and all of our volunteers. We also owe a huge thanks to Gillian Anderson for her encouragement and auction donations; the event's NF, Inc. representative, Beverly Oberlander, whose moving and empowering speech regarding her own battle with Neurofibromatosis lit a fire in the hearts of all in attendance; Executive Director Kim Bischoff and everyone at NF, Inc., for their assistance, invaluable information and support. Please visit NF, Inc. to learn more about the plight to raise funds and awareness for Neurofibromatosis. Recently we received a letter from Ms. Bischoff with regard to our fundraising efforts:

Neurofibromatosis, Inc. would like to express our sincere gratitude for the donation made in honor of Gillian Anderson on behalf of IBG. This contribution was made possible through “The X-Files Double-Feature Screening” held on December 6, 2008.

This donation helps Neurofibromatosis, Inc. further our goals to serve individuals and families affected by Neurofibromatosis. Our support of clinical, educational and research programs help us to meet these needs.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the sponsors, J & L Installations, Aveda and Starbucks and our appreciation for our incredible, talented and dedicated, Elizabeth, Karen, Caileigh and Patricia, without them none of this would have been possible.

Thank you to all that participated for keeping the dream of a treatment and eventual cure for Neurofibromatosis in your dreams.

Prolific director Kim Manners, beloved to fans of The X-Files and Supernatural for his skilled and innovative directing style, lost his battle with lung cancer on 25 January 2009. To honour the firecracker genius we lost all too soon, we invite our fellow Manners fans to contribute any amount they are able to beginning on 26 January 2009. The funds will be collected and donated to The American Cancer Society in Memoriam of Kim Manners, from his community of fans.

Kim Manners' work had such a unique touch — a beautiful symphony of timbre, cadence, pitch and meticulous timing. The industry has truly lost an incomparable creative genius. He made us laugh, he made us cry, he scared us, he enlightened us, he made us think. With every flawless direction, with the perfect pitch for the craft he seemed to innately possess, he lit a fire in not only those with whom he worked, but within those he inspired from afar through that work. Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, co-workers and anyone else who enjoyed the privilege of knowing him.
